Press releases, or media releases, are a fundamental tool of PR work – and a useful way to try and generate a feature story. I have written press releases for a number of clients, including The Hotel Collection and The Imperial Hotel in Torquay. The Hotel Collection required a press release to publicise their charity fundraising events for Cancer Research UK, while The Imperial Hotel wanted a release to distribute to local media regarding their 150th anniversary celebrations.
One of the very first press releases a wrote was for a personal trainer who was keen to help her community get “fit 4 life” by embracing exercise and healthy eating. The overall aim of the release was to help promote her business and secure new clients. The release I wrote was picked up and turned into an article which was published in the local press.
