Businesses unite to help Harborough residents fight the flab

Below left is the published article, to the right of which is my original press release upon which the story was based:

Press release - Joanna wants to get Harborough businesses fighting fit!

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

Businesses unite to help Harborough residents fight the flab

It’s a startling fact but almost 61% of adults and 31% of children in the UK are overweight. Thanks to our preference for unhealthy snacks and convenience foods, coupled with a lack of regular exercise, our waistlines are growing at an alarmingly rapid rate.

In an effort to help the local community battle the bulge, a local fitness expert has decided to try and change the way Market Harborough views diets and fitness by teaming up with a host of local businesses including the Oat Hill, Simply Simon’s, Bates Butchers and Sheedas to help people lose weight, get fit and feel fabulous in the process.

Disillusioned with gyms and quick fix diet programmes, personal trainer Joanna Bloore is taking the proactive approach, calling on local businesses to do their bit in the ongoing quest to get the nation – or rather the Harborough community – fighting fit.

Launched last month in and around Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, the Fit4Life project is one of the fastest growing fitness programmes of its kind. It aims to not only help people transform their bodies with a 21 Day Rapid Fat Loss Formula, but also sets out to destroy the myth that people need to spend hours at the gym to get the best results.

By educating people away from the ʻone size fits allʼ approach adopted by many gyms and other weight management classes, the project is already proving its worth with women (and a few men!) who have been less than impressed with gyms or quick fix diets and fad classes.

“Iʼve seen the results other people have had using the 21 Day Rapid Fat Loss Formula, so I am really excited to be able to offer this to the people of Market Harborough,” says Jo.

“Everyone who has participated in this project has been blown away by the results they have seen and have learned how to keep the unwanted weight off which is something many diets and fitness programmes do not offer.”

Having two successful Market Harborough camps under her belt, Jo decided to get the wider community involved in Fit4Life by approaching local businesses to get them onboard. The Oat Hill Bar and Restaurant on Kettering Road was one of the first to step up to the plate and add their support by offering their own Fit4Life menu.

“Healthy eating is a part of our decision making when we go out to eat, whether it’s dietary requirements or calorie counting,” comments the Oat Hill’s Ian Scott. “At the Oat Hill we know the customer wants to have a treat, but also needs to make an informed decision about their choice.

“The Fit4life menus include lots of dishes that contain fresh, seasonal produce. This is the Oat Hill’s philosophy on food; freshly prepared ingredients as part of a seasonal menu. Fitness and nutrition has to be a part of a healthy lifestyle, the fit4life project fits into even the busiest lifestyle whether eating in or eating out, which is why we jumped at the chance to get on board.”

Simply Simon’s, a small family run delicateseen and bistro café on Adam and Eve Street was equally eager to get on board, as owner Simon Matthews explains:

“The Fit4Life Project shares many of the aims of Simply Simon’s in trying to encourage and promote the enjoyment of good healthy food. Many items on our menu match and support the Fit4Life Project and we believe that any project like this can only help to encourage an interest in and the benefits of good nutrition.”

“Fit4Life is about getting maximum results with minimum fuss, without counting points, without weighing things and without spending hours at the gym,” adds Jo. “It’s about looking at the bigger picture to not only get fit but to educate yourself to become fitter for life!”
